In our journey through the Mass we are still at that critical high point, the consecration of the bread and wine. If there is a particular moment that we should give our whole attention to too, this is it! It is a very holy moment! Jesus is manifested Body and Blood in our midst! This is also why the priest kisses the altar at the beginning of Mass at a particular place on the altar, the place where Jesus will manifest. This is why, if able, we kneel at this time. This is why bells are traditionally used. The first time is to make aware that the Holy Spirit is being called down upon the bread and wine, one ring. The second time is immediately after the prayer over the bread, three rings, signaling the Devine presence. The third time is over the wine, again, three times signaling the Trinitarian, Devine presence. Yours in Christ our Lord, Fr. Sid.
